ColwoodBԪַs sewage future is in the dumps following another losing case in B.C. Supreme Court on how it collects parcel sewer taxes.
Justice R.D. WilsonBԪַs 11-page ruling in favour of Andrex Developments Ltd., which launched the court case, says that ColwoodBԪַs parcel tax bylaws are BԪַunlawfulBԪַ because they contravene the Community Charter, a piece of provincial legislation that governs municipalities.

Langford Mayor Stew Young says there is definitely BԪַtalk in the communityBԪַ on the subject, but that council is only concerned with whether the municipalityBԪַs infrastructure can support the proposed stores.

1987
A dog that killed a lamb in Metchosin has been illegally released from custody.
The golden retriever cross escaped when someone broke into the Canisheaven Boarding Kennels and removed the locks from three animal holding areas. Colwood RCMP report that bolt cutters were used to cut four padlocks on the front gate. Except for the retriever, all the animals were found running free near the kennel and were quickly captured.

Sooke District teachers want to use job action to protest the governmentBԪַs new labour relations legislation. At an emergency meeting of the Sooke Teachers Association, more than 300 members voted to support the B.C. Teachers Federation and its fight against the new legislation.
The new legislation forces teachers to join a new teachersBԪַ professional college, which will administer certification and professional development, tasks presently conducted by the Education Ministry and the BCTF, respectively. ItBԪַs feared that this will damage teachersBԪַ tenure and force them to renegotiate sick leave.
