Wear purple on Friday for elder abuse awareness
Elder abuse continues to be a big concern on the West Shore and across the province. Friday, June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, as designated by the United Nations General Assembly, and people are encouraged to wear purple to raise awareness.
The Pacific Centre Family Services Association and the Westshore Community Response Network is inviting residents to stop by the Metchosin WEA Tea on Friday for free refreshments, conversation and giveaways. This event takes place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Metchosin Community House, 4430 Happy Valley Rd., and all are welcome to attend.
Big family-friendly block party in Langford Saturday
Capital Iron, BuckerfieldBԪַs and Quality Foods have partnered to present the first block party at 975 Langford Pkwy.
The West Shore Good Neighbour Block Party takes place this Saturday, June 16 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. There will be lots of family-friendly fun, food, prizes and more.

Beach seine guided walk this weekend in Metchosin
The Capital Regional District is inviting residents to join their regional parks naturalists on a beach seine to see what creatures live in the underwater forest at WittyBԪַs Lagoon Regional Park in Metchosin.
Be prepared to get your feet wet on June 16 from 10:30 a.m. until noon. Meet at the kiosk near the main beach off Metchosin Road but please leave your pets at home.

Family fishing weekend sees events across the province
Coinciding with FatherBԪַs Day weekend, annual family fishing weekend events are being held across the province that combine fishing, learning and socializing.
Taking place at the Malahat Outdoor Sports Centre on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., the Victoria Fish and Game Protective Association is hosting a free, local event. Everyone is welcome and equipment will be provided for those who do not have their own.
