A City of Victoria councillor is giving busy parents a moment to catch up on some sleep by starting a bedtime story livestream.

Every weekday night at 8 p.m., a Greater Victoria elected official takes to Facebook to read a favourite bedtime story live. According to organizer Charlayne Thorton-Joe, itB次元官网网址檚 a moment of escape for adults and a cherished time for their kids.

The book she read, B次元官网网址楴o Such Thing as Far AwayB次元官网网址, holds a special place in her heart.

The book follows Michael, a boy faced with the disappointment of moving away from Chinatown to a new home. Over time, his grandpa teaches him that even though heB次元官网网址檚 surrounded by people and places he doesnB次元官网网址檛 know, thereB次元官网网址檚 B次元官网网址榥o such thing as far awayB次元官网网址 when he remembers who he is and where he came from.

B次元官网网址淚 didnB次元官网网址檛 always like the fact that I was Asian growing up,B次元官网网址 says Thorton-Joe. B次元官网网址淚n elementary school, I faced discrimination for being Asian. This book reminds me of my childhood because my grandpa used to work in Chinatown as well.B次元官网网址

SheB次元官网网址檚 already hosted a bevy of elected officials, including B.C.B次元官网网址檚 Minister of Finance Carole James, View Royal Mayor David Screech, North Saanich mayor Geoff Orr and Chair of Victoria Regional Transit Commission Susan Brice.

The councillor has prepared a lineup throughout the next month, including BCB次元官网网址檚 Minister of Agriculture Lana Popham, Oak Bay Mayor Kevin Murdoch, and one of her favourite writers, Lisa See.
