A series of new interconnected parks and trails are in the works for the Royal Bay development in Colwood.
Five parks are currently envisioned for the Royal Bay - Latoria North area, and will increase pedestrian and cycling connections between neighbourhoods and new opportunities for people to be active throughout the municipality.
The plan, which was recently approved by council, includes natural parks B次元官网网址� open spaces that provide both recreational opportunities and ecosystem functions such as restoring habitat connectivity between the forest and the shoreline, and managing the flow of stormwater.
There will also be neighbourhood parks, which will meet a range of community needs from quiet, contemplative spaces to active playgrounds, sports fields and areas for markets and festivals.

The first park is Meadow Park North which will be a continuation of the already existing Meadow Park (at the corner of Latoria Road and Sparrowhawk Avenue) with a greenway and trail connection to Meadow Park Green and beyond to MurrayB次元官网网址檚 Pond. Meadow Park Green will be a hub for play and recreation, and will feature play structures, seating and open space activity areas.
MurrayB次元官网网址檚 Pond Connector will include a trail that links Meadow Park North and MurrayB次元官网网址檚 Pond Park. Trails in the park will create a connection between Ryder Hesjedal Way, Parkside Park, and the existing perimeter path that runs from Latoria Road above Royal Bay Secondary school.
North Ridge Park will have a walking trail through the sloped areas bordering the new Royal Bay neighbourhoods in Latoria North.
The construction of the parks will take place in segments as the Royal Bay development moves forward, beginning in the fall and is expected to continue for the next three to five years.
