Royal Roads University has had another successful fall harvest at The Farm, and that means even more food is going to community organizations in need.

At its harvest celebration Wednesday (Oct. 4), the school announced more than 3,000 pounds of produce has been collected so far, and there is still some harvesting to do.

B次元官网网址淭he harvest has been epic this year,B次元官网网址 said Solara Goldwynn, RRUB次元官网网址檚 food systems manager. B次元官网网址淲e did add a few more rows in the fall, and just knowing the site a little bit more and what grows well factored in.B次元官网网址

Those factors meant this yearB次元官网网址檚 harvest was double that of 2022B次元官网网址檚, benefiting the schoolB次元官网网址檚 community partners Our Place Society, Iye Creative, the Victoria Community Fridge, and the schoolB次元官网网址檚 own community fridge.

Work to restore and sustain the schoolB次元官网网址檚 historic gardens is funded in part by its annual Vision in Bloom fundraising appeal, which was announced to have raised more than $250,000 this year.

The schoolB次元官网网址檚 gardens continue to grow, with the next phase set to include an Indigenous medicine garden, a market garden to help fund ongoing food production, and expansions to the Polyculture Orchard and Giving Garden.

B次元官网网址淚tB次元官网网址檚 just more growing, more gardens, and more opportunity for people to volunteer and learn through programming,B次元官网网址 said Goldwynn. B次元官网网址淏uilding these relationships with our partner organizations will also continue, so we can grow what they want and need, rather than growing whatever and then finding they canB次元官网网址檛 use it.B次元官网网址
