Rock on! Royal Bay house band aims to impress at Rock the Rink

This weekend Royal Bay Secondary schoolB次元官网网址檚 house band will be hitting the stage B次元官网网址 but itB次元官网网址檚 no ordinary performance. TuesdayB次元官网网址檚 Roadkill is one of five bands who has been selected to compete at Rock the Rink for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform at Rock the Shores in July.

B次元官网网址淲eB次元官网网址檙e really excited and nervous. We start the show, so weB次元官网网址檒l be the first ones playing,B次元官网网址 said band member Tricia True. B次元官网网址淲e were completely shocked. We did not expect to get in.B次元官网网址

The five-person band includes True on bass and background vocals, lead singer Chloe Piwek, pianist Keelan Siemens, guitarist Andrew Whitney, and Alex Fraser on drums and background vocals.

The cover band has been playing together for the past two years, covering multiple genres namely rock, pop and alternative during lunch hour at school, before concerts and charity events. TheyB次元官网网址檝e also played gigs in Colwood and Langford, but are hoping to get their name out there with the upcoming performance this weekend.

As part of their 15-minute set, TuesdayB次元官网网址檚 Roadkill has written an original piece, which is currently untitled, that will be performed for the first time at Rock the Rink, along with a medley of four song covers.

B次元官网网址淚t was our first time writing a song,B次元官网网址 Piwek said. B次元官网网址淭ricia came to me and she wrote the chorus and we came together for some of the versus.B次元官网网址

While the group admits theyB次元官网网址檒l be happy just coming in fifth place at Rock the Rink, they hope it will be a stepping stone to help them in their musical pursuits.

B次元官网网址淚 have a lot of trouble speaking to crowds or even doing presentations in classes, but performing, I immediately feel a sense of freedom,B次元官网网址 said Piwek, adding as band members graduate, they hope to rekindle their love of music by playing other gigs around the community.B次元官网网址

Rock the Rink takes place on Saturday, June 9 at the Juan de Fuca curling rink (1767 Island Hwy).

Other bands who have been selected to peform at Rock the Rink includes The Colts, Fairfield, Sugar Castle, and the Porter Brothers.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and performances run from 7 to 10:30 p.m. There will also be celebrity judges, a concession and prizes.

Tickets can be purchased at westshorerecreation.ca or at the door and are a suggested $5 donation.
