Women on the Home Front

takes a step back in time to honour the contributions women made on the local scene with actors from Parks Canada dressed in the military garb of that period. The event takes place June 17 and 18 at Fort Rodd Hill and admission is free as part of Parks CanadaB次元官网网址檚 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation celebrations.

Garden City Cat Show

The show at the Mary Winspear Centre June 17 and 18. Over 25 different breeds B次元官网网址 including Sphinx, Maine Coon and Somali B次元官网网址 will be attending the show. The family-friendly show is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both June 17 and 18. Tickets are $6 for an adult or $3 for children. Family admission is $12. Tickets are free for children five and under.

RVYC open house

The Royal Victoria Yacht Club celebrates 125 years with an , June 17. This will be their first since 2015, when visitors took part in family activities, perused CANSail and water-related activity booths, watched a regatta from shore and enjoyed some of the clubB次元官网网址檚 best indoor and outdoor amenities.

250 burgers will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis to non-members at the event June 17. The RVYC open house starts at 11:00 am and finishes 3:00 pm, 3475 Ripon Road.

Raymond James FatherB次元官网网址檚 Day Walk and Run for Prostate Cancer

The annual for Prostate Cancer goes June 18 from the Vancouver Island Tech Park at 4464 Markham St., near Layritz Park.

Register at islandprostatecentre.com. On the day of the event, registration starts at 8 a.m. with the walk and run beginning at 10 a.m. The registration fee is $35 unless you collect a minimum of $150 in donations. Children under 12 free.

Car Free Day

The Downtown Victoria Business Association, B.C. Transit and City of Victoria host . June 18 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and covers nine blocks along Douglas Street from Chatham/Caledonia to Courtney streets, where organizers have invited local artisans to ply their wares to the tens of thousands of visitors to the celebration area.

Navy run

Instead of the traditional starting pistol, a C3 Howitzer gun will be fired once to start CFB EsquimaltB次元官网网址檚 annual , which this year falls on FatherB次元官网网址檚 Day (June 18).

The annual family oriented event, overseen by the Department of National Defence and Royal Canadian Navy includes 10-kilometre and 5K distances, as well as a kidB次元官网网址檚 run starting at 8 a.m. The longer routes take runners through the Township of EsquimaltB次元官网网址檚 residential streets, starting and ending just inside the security gates on Admirals Road leading to Naden.
