Lindsay Taylor from the Hub of Active School Travel presented some findings to Metchosin council regarding how students commute to school. At Hans Helgesen elementary, 47 per cent of students are driven, 23 per cent walk and the rest bike, bus or are driven part way.

Obstacles, including safe routes and a young student body, were noted regarding getting students to walk. Coun. Moralea Milne said a solution could be to encourage parents to walk with their kids.

The CRD is studying how to improve school commutes.
