If you are considering a career in health care, this employment preparation fair is the perfect prescription for you.
Work Link Employment Society and the Military Family Resource Centre are hosting a forum on March 9 featuring a presentation by Rod OB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™Connell, strategist and talent acquisition specialist for Island Health.
OB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™Connell will cover how to navigate Island HealthB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s online application system, preferred style of resumes, interview preparation and more.
Island Health, one of Vancouver IslandB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s largest employers, only accepts online applications. Employment is not limited to health care, with jobs available in 900 other categories.
Barbara McLean, community co-ordinator for Work Link Employment Society, said that at a recent job fair, 50 people indicated they had applied to Island Health, but only one received an interview.
The fact that Island Health Authority hires about 2,200 people a year from a pool of more than 90,000 online applications underlines the importance of proper preparation when applying, McLean added.
The event takes place from 10 a.m to 12 p.m. at the Military Family Resource Centre at 2610 Rosebank Rd. in Colwood. For more information, call McLean at 250-478-9525.
