Ruth King Elementary School is getting crafty to send a message of love to Langford seniors for the ValentineBԪַs season.
Students are planning to create heartfelt ValentineBԪַs cards for residents at the retirement community Jesken Aerie, a project of the M'akola Housing Society.
BԪַThis initiative aims to spread love and joy among our seniors while fostering meaningful connections between generations,BԪַ said Kelly-Jaymes Beck on behalf of Ruth King Parent Advisory Council (PAC).
The event will also feature concessions, a raffle and chocolate roses, on sale for those needing to buy a last-minute Valentine's gift. Proceeds raised will be used for the PACBԪַs accessible playground initiative.
With the Rotary Club of West Shore's support, the group hopes to create a new playground for the school and the wider community, featuring equipment children of all abilities can enjoy.
BԪַThe existing playground equipment was designed for a population of around 250 children,BԪַ said Beck. BԪַCurrently, with 454 students enrolled BԪַ they are all competing for the same 16 swings during recess."
Alongside donations, PAC has also applied for grants to help support their vision of an inclusive playground.
The ValentineBԪַs cards and craft event will be held at the school on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 5:30 p.m., for families from the schoolBԪַs community.
Tickets are available in advance and on the door.
