An event at Fort Rodd Hill this weekend offers a look at what it was like for a select group of Canadian women during the Second World War.
Women on the Home Front takes a step back in time to honour the contributions women made on the local scene with actors from Parks Canada dressed in the military garb of that period.
This is a great event for the whole family to learn out about the history of Ronnie the Bren Gun Girl and the meaning of the acronym CWAC, said Sophie Lauro, promotions officer for Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse national historic sites.
Activities include old-fashioned games, mastering the art of the Victory roll and a chance to snap a selfie behind the wheel of a 1942 Willys Jeep. You can also learn how to make desserts from a rationing cook book from that era.
B次元官网网址淲e will be serving a delicious ration chocolate cake on Sunday made using a recipe from that book,B次元官网网址� Lauro said. B次元官网网址淲e also will have some beautiful, very delicate embroidered postcards from World War I on display both days.B次元官网网址�
Other features on Saturday include a demonstration of vintage hair styling at noon and a fashion show at 2 p.m. featuring vintage wedding dresses, and the Victoria Concert Band will perform on Sunday.
The event takes place this weekend (June 17 and 18) and admission is free as part of Parks CanadaB次元官网网址檚 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation celebrations.
