Proper preparation is the best antidote for dealing with disaster. View Royal Emergency Social Services is organizing the ninth annual Regional Emergency Preparedness display to kick start Emergency Preparedness Week, which runs May 1-6.
The free family event takes place Sat. May 1 in the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre parking lot and inside the Juan de Fuca Seniors Centre in Colwood from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m..
View Royal Fire Rescue Capt. Troy Mollin said the event is a great opportunity to showcase to the public the co-operation and support ESS teams provide on the West Shore. The parking lot will be filled with emergency service vehicles from West Shore fire departments, ambulance service and police departments. The BC Hazmat Safety Village is always a popular draw for children, who get to ride vehicles through the display while learning important traffic safety tips.
The inside of the seniorB次元官网网址檚 centre will have displays and information booths staffed by volunteers from the View Royal, Colwood and Langford emergency social services programs and fire prevention, as well as booths featuring emergency preparedness suppliers and products.
ItB次元官网网址檚 a great spot to get a look at and learn about the products and suppliers who specialize in those kind of items, Mollin noted.
