Basic seamanship has a Dunsmuir student tied up in knots and loving it.
Dylan Lamoureux, a member of the 236 Royal Canadian Sea Cadets Beacon Hill, is spending three weeks on a basic seamanship course at HMCS Quadra.
Lamoureux is learning to helm the Grizzly, an Orca-class patrol vessel, as part of a course that includes the basics of ship operations, knots, hitches and semaphore, a form of communication with flags.
HMCS Quadra in the Comox Valley is a temporary home for more than 800 cadets and staff. Cadets from across Canada attend each summer to learn valuable skills such as leadership, seamanship, instructional technique, music, team building and citizenship.
