Cycling grandmothers collect thousands for Africa

Nearly $50,000 raised on trek from Campbell River to Victoria

VictoriaB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s grannies have pedalled their way to success in support of African grandmothers.

The Victoria Grandmothers for AfricaB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s fifth annual bicycle tour saw 23 cyclists raise nearly $50,000.

Since the eventB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s inception, the group has generated almost $200,00 in support of the Stephen Lewis FoundationB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s Grandmothers to Grandmothers campaign.

The campaign funds grassroots initiatives that support African grandmothers who are raising their HIV/AIDS-orphaned grandchildren.

The cyclists covered about 280 kilometres, beginning in Campbell River on Sept. 9 and ending in Victoria on Sept. 11.
