Residents gathered in LangfordB次元官网网址檚 Veterans Memorial Park to pay tribute to Canadians and others who lost their lives at Vimy Ridge, starting 100 years ago Sunday.

The event, held in a section of the park anchored by a scale version of the Vimy memorial in France, resembled a Remembrance Day ceremony with its playing of the Last Post, the singing of B次元官网网址淎mazing GraceB次元官网网址� and the two minutes of silence. But it also had an upbeat air, as young and the old joined together to place lanterns next to tiny crosses that lined the perimeter of the memorial.

The candles were tough to see during the ceremony B次元官网网址� the Prince Edward Branch #91 of the Royal Canadian Legion scheduled the event during the day to attract more people B次元官网网址� but will likely provide a glow around the memorial as dusk sets in tonight.

The ceremony was one of many being held across the country and in Vimy itself this weekend, to mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, which many Canadian historians characterize as the event that brought Canada together as a nation on the world stage.
