Coast Capital in Sidney honours BԪַGiving TuesdayBԪַ

While the phrases Black Friday and Cyber Monday have been a constant fixture this past weekend, itBԪַs Giving Tuesday that employees of Coast Capital in Sidney are focused on.

In the spirit of giving back to the community, the credit union has encouraged its staff to mark the day BԪַ Nov. 26 BԪַ by donating more than $46,000 to non-profit organizations across B.C.

This year, 1,864 employees of Coast Capital will receive $25 from the company to donate to a Canadian charitable organization of their choice.

In Sidney, employee Mathew Stotyn not only donates his money, but also his time, volunteering some 60 hours this year alone.

The desire to volunteer has grown over StotynBԪַs five years as an active volunteer with the Sidney Volunteer Fire Department, where he joined to volunteer with causes like the wildfire deployments, Christmas food drives and fundraising events to benefit muscular dystrophy.

BԪַI started volunteering to make a difference for people who were in a time of need and since I started, the experiences IBԪַve had have further fed that desire to help,BԪַ Stotyn said.

With support from the employee volunteer program at Coast Capital, Stotyn has been able to contribute to important causes in his home community.

The Help Heroes employee volunteer program, launched earlier this year, allows employees to volunteer up to 7.5 paid hours with an organization of their choosing. Participants also earn $10 per hour of volunteer time to allocate to a charity of their choice.

Maureen Young, Coast Capital director of community leadership said the company is passionate about the communities in which they live and work.
