The public is again invited to the Vancouver Island Regional Science Fair in its 57th year and hosted on the UVic campusB次元官网网址攖o view the inventions and hear more about discoveries by the best junior scientists on Vancouver Island.

Does washing your hands actually work? Do chestnuts really deter spiders? And can electronics drain your brain? These are some of the many hypotheses for 135 projects by 170 young science enthusiasts from grades 4 to 12 featured in the two-day science fair. Several projects will also be chosen on Monday for the national science fair in Ottawa next month.

VIRSF 2018 is open both Sunday and Monday to interested members of the public (with donations gratefully received). This annual event is organized by the non-profit volunteer Society for the Advancement of Young Scientists (SAYS).

Please observe on-site signage or check with officials for details, because some parents have requested that no photos or video clips be taken of their children.

The public can view the projects Sunday, April 8 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. and Monday, April 9 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Elliott Lecture Wing at UVic.

There is an awards ceremony on Monday, April 9 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in Room A144, MacLaurin Building.
