Barely three months after its launch, Swoop Airlines - WestJetB次元官网网址檚 ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) - has discontinued its Comox (YQQ)-Edmonton (YEG) flight.
Swoop began its YQQ-YEG service on June 9. The routeB次元官网网址檚 final flight will be on Sept. 15.
B次元官网网址淲hile we had hoped to see it continue to month end (or even Thanksgiving), the decision to end the service on the 15th was confirmed last month,B次元官网网址 said YQQ market development manager, Erin Neely. B次元官网网址淪woopB次元官网网址檚 parent company, WestJet, will continue to provide the non-stop service to Edmonton, ensuring good connectivity via that hub.B次元官网网址
Neely said the airport will work to resume Swoop service out of YQQ in the future.
B次元官网网址淲e will be working hard to encourage SwoopB次元官网网址檚 return, but this may be a challenge as the ultra-low-cost carriers tend to favour bases with significant populations to draw from. While we bucked that trend with a hope for significant domestic demand to our station over the summer, the actual passenger loads proved to be less than adequate to sustain both ULC carriers beyond the peak summer months.B次元官网网址
B次元官网网址淚 can confirm that Swoop will not be extending its seasonal service between Edmonton and Comox,B次元官网网址 added Swoop senior manager, airports, Ryan Hubbard. B次元官网网址淲e understand this is disappointing news to our travellers and the community, but weB次元官网网址檙e pleased to share that WestJet will continue to offer year-round service between Edmonton and Comox. Though weB次元官网网址檇 hoped to extend our operation in Comox into the winter months, we made the decision to position our resources elsewhere in our network where demand is strongest.B次元官网网址
one month after Flair Airlines - CanadaB次元官网网址檚 only independent ULCC -
Flair began flying non-stop flights to both Edmonton and Calgary in March of 2022. That airline discontinued all service out of Comox in July.
