Islandlink has restarted daily bus service between Port Alberni, Ucluelet and Tofino and dropped fares to $5.
BԪַWe were forced to suspend service on June 8 due to the Cameron Lake fire road closure, cutting off Nanaimo, but now realize the people on the Coast also require local services,BԪַ said IslandLink and Tofino Express Bus owner Phillip Morgan in a June 13 announcement. BԪַFor them, the closure has gone on too long already, so today we have re-started those services.BԪַ
A 24-seat TofinoExpressBus will leave Port Alberni everyday at 7:30 a.m., arriving in Ucluelet at 8:55 a.m. before reaching Tofino at 9:45 a.m. The return trip will leave Tofino at 3:30 p.m. and Ucluelet at 4:15 p.m. reaching Port Alberni at 5:50 p.m.
Morgan added that, as of June 14, one-way fares will be $5 BԪַuntil at least ThanksgivingBԪַ for Port Alberni - Ucluelet, Port Alberni - Tofino and Ucluelet - Tofino.
BԪַWe can see that West Coast residents have been dealt a pretty bad hand with respect to satisfying their transportation needs over the past 2-3 years, first with COVID and now with a road closure 150kms away,BԪַ Morgan said. BԪַTofinoExpressBus.com intends to do something about it.BԪַ
Information on fares, schedules and availability as well as reserving tickets can be found at the TofinoExpressBus website at www.TofinoExpressBus.com or IslandLink website at www.IslandLinkBus.com.
Bookings can be made until midnight on the day before travel and a $5 cash-fare can be paid to the driver space permitting.
The announcement adds that IslandLinkBԪַs routes between Nanaimo and Ucluelet-Tofino are expected to resume when Hwy. 4 reopens at Cameron Lake.
