Alberni Valley B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ· editor Susan Quinn has been awarded the 2014 , a $3,000 grant given to a Canadian journalist every year B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ "to undertake and publish a literacy project to enhance public understanding, support for, and awareness of, the literacy cause."
Quinn, who has been a community news reporter for 25 years, will publish a series (and on BCLocalB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·.com) on adult literacy in the Port Alberni, B.C. area. She'll be "underlining the effect government cuts to core funding is having at the grassroots level," according to an awards press release.
The fellowship is named after the late Gzowski, a longtime Canadian radio host and broadcaster, who famously hosted the CBC show Morningside from 1982 to 1997, and who passed away in 2002. He was named a Companion of the Order of Canada in 1998.
